Our NYC Staff:

Gene Solomon, DVM: Dr. Solomon graduated from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine followed by an internship at the Animal Medical Center in NYC.  In 1989, Dr. Solomon and fellow graduate Paul Schwartz, DVM founded the Center for Veterinary Care in Manhattan.  Shortly after opening the practice he rescued a young dog (a mixed breed with 3 legs) that became the mascot for the center.  Dr. Solomon has  subsequently rescued and successfully placed more than 1000 dogs over the past 20 years. Dr Solomon's success with numerous cancer patients over the years has brought out a special interest in soft tissue surgery and oncology.  He is an active member of the Morris Animal Foundation and an avid fundraiser for this research foundation.  Dr Solomon is an accomplished golfer.

Paul Schwartz, DVM: Dr. Schwartz graduated from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.  Following graduation he joined an equine surgical practice in Maryland. In 1989, he and fellow graduate, Dr. Gene Solomon, opened the Center for Veterinary Care, a companion animal practice in New York City. Dr. Schwartz has extensive training and experience in diagnostic ultrasound and echocardiology. He has a special interest in orthopedics and is certified in TPLO surgery. Dr. Schwartz also provides minimally invasive (laparoscopic) abdominal and thoracic surgical procedures for his patients. In 2005, Dr. Schwartz established the Center for Veterinary Care in Millbrook, NY, providing high quality medical and surgical care for companion and equine patients.  Over the last 20 years, Dr. Schwartz has provided veterinary care in underdeveloped areas as a result of which he has acquired a position practicing on veterinary care in local practices. Last year, he rescued a litter of native pot cake dogs from the Turks and Caicos Island and successfully placed them in homes in New York. He is currently involved in work with The Good Dog Foundation. He is an avid snow skier and deep sea diver.

Richard Greene, DVM Dip ACVS:  A native of New York, Dr. Greene graduated from Colorado State University and is a board certified surgeon.  He has over 40 years experience and has traveled extensively lecturing at veterinary conferences all over the world and is published in several prestigious veterinary texts.  He was a resident at the Animal Medical Center in NYC.  An avid horticulturist and food and wine enthusiast, Dr Greene is currently building a beautiful collection of betas on his desk at work.  He sees surgical referrals Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays.  He is well known and respected throughout the world veterinary community.

Leah Jackson, VMD: A native of northern New Jersey, Dr. Jackson graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 2003.  She then did an internship at Manhattan Veterinary Group in NYC.  She joined Center for Veterinary Care in 2004.  Leah is a talented compassionate veterinarian and is devoted to client education and preventative medicine.  She has special interests in general surgery and ultrasonography.  She and her rescued Chihuahua, Minna, currently reside in NYC and she enjoys the cultural aspects of the city and is an avid musician.

Dr. Amanda Walter:

Dr Amanda Walter originally hails from Long Island, but spent the majority of her formative years in north Florida.  Like Drs Solomon and Schwartz, she graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002, and remained in Florida until the fall of 2007 when she joined the Center for Veterinary Care. During her years in Florida working as an emergency and critical care veterinarian, she developed her skills working with a variety of species: dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, small rodents (rats & mice) and reptiles such as snakes and developed a wonderful rapport with clients as ‘the other family doctor.’ When she moved to NY, she became involved with the Alliance for Safety for Animals and People, an organization that helps victims of domestic violence and their pets find shelter for both two and four legged family members. Outside of her life as a veterinarian, Dr Walter enjoys photography, hiking, exploring NYC, and spending time with her own furry family members: an Irish Wolfhound mix, Kayla and a lab mix, Otis and her three cats.
